Welcome to the LexingtonWiki
Lexington Development and its Publisher Scott Schaefer are pleased to welcome you to the LexingtonWiki, a wiki project focused on research and knowledge base content. Launched in November 2010, the LexingtonWiki was originally conceived as a website platform for managing the intra-company information resources of Lexington Development. What should have been a simple enough task has evolved into an online platform with research resources for students, researchers and the local community. Much like LexingtonWiki, the LexingtonWiki is built with MediaWiki software, and is organized and styled according to the same formatting styles as LexingtonWiki, in order to provide a wiki experience which is as familiar to our visitors as possible.
Overview
While the LexingtonWiki is by no means Wikipedia, which is the largest encyclopedia ever to exist, the LexingtonWiki could conceivably be one of the fastest growing wikis of any real substance in the world; probably even the universe. However, boasts about the growth of the LexingtonWiki have not been independently verified and are an entirely shoot from the hip claim. Be that as it may, the LexingtonWiki, which was only conceived and published for the first time in September 2010, began that first day without a single page of content, not one extension to the MediaWiki software, no page templates, and only one author. As if these hurdles alone were not sufficient to stifle the LexingtonWiki from becoming a reality, efforts were further hindered because that one author had no working knowledge of the MediaWiki software, no working knowledge of Php and no working knowledge of wikitext. He did, however, have a tremendous desire to add a powerful wiki with strong Content Management capabilities relevant to his group of websites that was also interesting to read, helpful to his website's readers and visitors, and both historically and geographically significant.
Growth of LexingtonWiki
On the 60th day after its launch, the LexingtonWiki began to feel substantial. It had reached 500 content pages, the number of visitors was increasing rapidly and, perhaps most importantly, we were able to add the awesome, slick looking header you now see at the top of this page. It should be made clear, at this point, that it was not the Publisher or that first author (both of whom are, in fact, the same person) who accomplished this feat, it was his 15 year old son - my son - Cole Schaefer who got it done. His Web development skills, which range from graphic design to programming languages are extraordinary and I am very proud of him. Even though he is too young for a company car, he has agreed to stay on and develop the LexingtonWiki with me, along with our family of websites and blogs.
New Content
As you navigate through the LexingtonWiki, be sure to review New This Month to stay abreast of the new features, content articles and extensions that may be new to the LexingtonWiki since your last visit.
Contribute to LexingtonWiki
That being said, until this wiki fully matures - if it ever fully matures - many articles are incomplete or need enhancement of some sort to achieve the quality standards we have established. So this is an appeal to Create an account and become a Contributor to the LexingtonWiki. If you encounter a page that feel requires improvement, improve it. If you notice a gap in our knowledge base, fill it. If you just have something you have always wanted to add or publish (and you know you do) write it. We could use the help and you just might enjoy it. Go ahead, Sign Up and jump right in. If you are not ready to go it alone, please glance through and join one of our Projects. Once again, welcome. Please login if you are a registered user or create a free account now. We have listed some links below to help you get started, or begin with your first search.
