Rebuild Florida
Rebuild Florida is a long-term, federally funded disaster recovery initiative managed by Florida Commerce that helps homeowners repair, rebuild, or replace homes damaged by major hurricanes, including Irma, Michael, Ian, and Sally. The program prioritizes low-income residents, the elderly, and disabled individuals, offering grants for housing rehabilitation and workforce training for construction trades.
Key Aspects of the Rebuild Florida Program
Housing Repair and Replacement Program (HRRP): Focuses on rehabilitating, elevating, or replacing damaged homes, including mobile homes, for low- and moderate-income (LMI) families.
Targeted Storm Recovery: Specific programs are tailored to damages from Hurricanes Irma, Michael, Sally, and Ian, supported by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Grant Structure: Funding is provided as a grant, not a loan, but requires recipients to sign a 3-year forgivable promissory note, agreeing to live in the home for that period.
Workforce Recovery Training: Provides training in construction trades (such as HVAC, welding, and CDL) to support the demand for labor in rebuilding efforts.
Community Grants: In addition to housing, the program provides grants to local communities for infrastructure repairs and mitigation projects to enhance resilience against future storms.
